Kirk/Spock Convention 2013 aka KiScon (please reblog to signal boost!) a convention just for Kirk/Spock? It exists! (and has existed since 1999) KiSCon website and KiScon LJ.
Why you should go: 1. “spend a weekend celebrating and sharing with fellow fans the excitement and passion that drew us all to Kirk and Spock.” - from KisCon’s site.2. Three days of nothing. but. Kirk/Spock. In all forms. TOS, reboot, mirror…3. super accessible location (even without a car. I say this as someone who relies on public transport all the time in Boston.)4. there will be dual-track programming, so TOS or Reboot purists won’t be bored.
Details!Theme: Boldly Going Where No K/S Con Has Gone BeforeWhen: Nov 1st-3rd 2013Where: Embassy Suites Boston - at Logan Airport, 207 Porter Street, Boston, MA 02128, U.S.A.Membership Fee: $99.95 per person, which includes admission to all programming, the Art Show and Auction, the Babel Banquet, the Opening Night Reception and the Dead Warrigul Party.Hotel Cost: $139 per room, per night. Full breakfast and Internet are included for every person in the room up to the maximum occupancy of 4 or 5, depending on the room type. That rate is valid from October 29th - November 5th, inclusive. LJ post to find room shares.More Questions? email kiscon2013@gmail.com
Sold yet? To go ahead, the con needs at least 60 registrations by Sept 1st. (if the con doesn’t make the minimum number by then, it will be cancelled and that would be sad. However, if this happens, everyone will be refunded and no one loses money.) But hopefully, this fandom is awesome enough to make the con go ahead, yes?
(the answer should be yes because this pairing is so awesome that it has an Oxford English Dictionary and a Wikipedia entry, as well as being listed first under ‘couples’ in Time’s Most Influential People Who Never Lived.)
even if you can’t go, please reblog this to promote / signal boost the con. thank you!
this promo was made with blessing of Catherine, the organizer of KiScon 2013.

Bert and Ernie mark DOMA decision on New Yorker cover
(Photo: The New Yorker)
In a nod to this week’s landmark Supreme Court decisions regarding same-sex marriage, the striking new cover of The New Yorker features famous “are they or aren’t they” couple Bert and Ernie of “Sesame Street” snuggled up on the couch watching the news on television.

The outcry over this cover is shocking but not surprising.
I grew up with Bert and Ernie. I’m not offended at them being depicted as a loving couple. It’s endearing. I would buy this picture and frame it, because when I saw it, my heart stopped for just a moment.
The argument I keep seeing is “Why can’t they just be roommates? Why can’t two guys be just friends?” which is the same argument we run into in fandom. The answer is, They can. They can just be roommates. They can just be friends.
They can also be more.
